 in a variety of techniques and styles.

All workshops and courses are suitable for beginners unless otherwise stated. 

Class numbers are tailored to the subject allowing for individual attention.

Regular Embroidery Classes

Stump work Dragonfly with Bullrushes starting in February !

These regular classes are designed to suit beginners and improvers and will take you 'step by step' through your chosen project. Occasionally a new particular project will be advertised which you can choose to stitch or alternatively, continue with something you have already started working on

This lovely 'Stump work Dragonfly' is the latest project which starts  on 11th February. It is expected that this project will take at least 2 classes.

You will learn a variety of techniques including wiring, padding and embroidering with a lovely range of threads including silk ribbon

You will receive expert tuition with lots of tips and advice, as well as enjoying a great hobby

Places are limited to ensure individual attention and must be booked in advance to secure your place.

These regular classes are designed to suit beginners and improvers and will take you 'step by step' through your chosen project. Occasionally a new particular project will be advertised which you can choose to stitch or alternatively, continue with something you have already started working on

This lovely 'Sampler Quilt' is the latest project which starts on 13th March. It is expected that this project will take at least 12 classes

You will learn a variety of different 'blocks', each designed to teach you different patchwork techniques 

You will receive expert tuition with lots of tips and advice, as well as enjoying a great hobby

Places are limited to ensure individual attention and must be booked in advance to secure your place.

Westalee Ruler Course with

3 days - 3rd to 5th March 2020

Angela Attwood will be joining us again to teach a 3 day course; Free Motion Quilting with the Westalee Rulers.

Westalee rulers can transform your free motion quilting by enabling you to undertake creative free motion quilting in a controlled way on your domestic sewing machine. Using the rulers will help you stitch a large range of beautiful patterns and designs, to complement your quilts.

On the first day of this course (beginners day) several elements will be covered including, attaching the Westalee foot and setting the height correctly, holding and using the standard ruler to good effect and using the ruler markings.

On days 2 & 3, Angela will be teaching her Sampler Course where you will use the rulers from the beginners day plus Sampler Set 1 rulers. You will learn lots of new designs/techniques with the rulers.

Terms of Booking:

Once enrolled, the workshop fee is non-refundable in part or full unless your place can be filled from a reserve list. Please note that any unpaid balance will still become payable if you cancel unless your place can be filled from a reserve list.

 

Westalee ruler requirements:

You will need the Westalee Ruler Foot starter kit and the Sampler Set 1 to attend this class.

You will receive an offer code so that you can order your rulers from The Cotton Patch with a 10% discount.This code will be made available to you for online purchases a few weeks prior to the start of the course and will remain valid for 2 weeks after.

Dry Felt Landscape

Spend a therapeutic day learning how to design your own landscape picture.

Nicola will guide you through the simple technique of 'dry' needle felting; how to prod, sculpt and create texture using Merino wool and textural threads. You can bring along a simple picture to work from, something that inspires you or choose from one of Nicola's on the day

This workshop is ideal for beginners or anyone who just wants to enjoy a relaxing day away from the everyday stresses

Fabric Covered Book Covers

Bring along a book, the size of your choice and make a lovely patchwork cover for it. ​After joining strips of fabric, you will decorate the panel with decorative machine stitches before making it up into a professionally finished book cover.

Your finished book would make a lovely present, perhaps for cookery recipes, gardeners notes or photos?

Experiment with Indian Block Printing using a variety of wooden blocks to create your own printed fabrics from which you will then cut the component pieces for your appliquéd elephant. You can then assemble the ceremonial elephant and set him on a background. This elephant can be stitched, beaded, sequinned and braided to great effect. If workshop time allows we will start the day by experimenting with the blocks and inks by printing onto a calico bag that I will supply. There will be a small fee for the use of my blocks, inks and calico bag.

Hand Applique'

Spend a relaxing two days creating your own applique' design or choose to use one of several available templates.

Nicola will take you through needle turning, raw edge and bias stems. Explore the various different way of doing hand applique' whilst discovering which method you prefer.

Your choice of project could be used for a wall hanging, cushion or table runner or be incorporated into the centre of a medallion quilt at a later stage

Decorative Machine Stitching

Spend a relaxing 2 days exploring and learning how to use your sewing machine beyond straight stitching.

You will learn how to use the decorative stitches on your machine confidently and combine them with applique, couching, and much more.

Your finished panel could be made into a lovely cushion with a mitred border
